Women are outnumbered by men in trail and ultra running. In a big way. When the distance in the race increases the number of women signing up for the racing goes way down. In 2016, of all people who started a 100 mile race only 21% of them were female. Those numbers are on the rise since 1980 when they started collecting data but women still have a long way to go.
The question is…..Why aren’t more women running far? Where are the ladies at? The answer isn’t clear and easy but it does seem like there is a few common threads among those not lining up at the starting line. In this podcast Aneta Zeppettella and Jessica Croisant discuss where all the ladies are, why they aren’t running farther, and how can we recruit more women to ultra.
Aneta Zeppettella is a kick ass lady. She is an ultra marathon runner who just finished Hellbender 100, she is a race director, a mom, a wife, and volunteer, a great friend, and an excellent human.
