Yoga makes for a powerful cross training partner for the trail and endurance runner. Yoga specifically will improve stability, core strength, form, and prevent injury. I sit down with yoga instructor Tracy Rhinehart to discuss how developing a yoga practice can transform your performance as a runner.
Tracy Rhinehart and I discuss how the enhancements that yoga can bring to your performance as an endurance athlete go far beyond conditioning the muscles. Yoga can be the key to learning how to breathe through the most difficult challenges, become better connected with oneself, and gaining an intimate relationship with pain. Tracy shares that just as a meditation practice can train your mind to “manage” the noise, a yoga practice can do that as well. The mindset towards what the body is capable of doing can be trained. Focusing on the breathe and holding challenging poses will change one’s perspective on being uncomfortable. Yoga has not only elevated my performance as a runner but has also heightened my ability to seize challenges in my personal and professional life as well.
How one shows up in life is up to the individual. Embracing one’s own pain and being curious about the relationship one has with it makes an extraordinary difference in how one is able to perform. Tracy and I talk about the benefits of facing our own pain and stepping into the fire of it.
