The New York Times announced that host of Express Yourself!, Ruhani Chhabra, was one of eight teens out of 11,000 worldwide submissions to win for her essay, T.S.A. and Cinnamon Buns, in the their 3rd Annual Personal Narrative Essay Contest. https://www.nytimes.com/2022/01/20/learning/the-winners-of-our-3rd-annual-personal-narrative-essay-contest-for-students.html Congratulations to our New York Times winner! Ruhani talks about the competition, then interviews Melissa Larsen for her debut novel, Shutter. The premise of Shutter showcases a young woman who agrees to star in a filmmaker's latest project, but soon realizes the movie is not what she expected. The two discuss the importance of literature, the writing process, the road to publishing, the challenges of being a writer, and offer advice to budding writers. One major piece of solid advice for future authors: Write the book you want to read. Sharanya Roy joins with her segment The Scribble, where she describes literature as a time machine. She then explains how to dissect a piece of literature starting with the basic four segments of literature: character, plot, setting, and theme. These ladies are all accomplished writers and this episode on literature is revealing and rewarding. Write on! Your words have power.
