In the days leading up to Hurricanes Irma and Maria, Brittany Lukowsky posted updates on Instagram about the weather and preparedness from the small island of Vieques in Puerto Rico. Unable to leave, she rode out the storm and continued to post from the island in the aftermath as power was out, there was no water and food was running low. Already a lover of fermentation this became one of her most important tools for survival. Compared to the packaged cookies and beef jerky that the Red Cross was handing out, Brittany was able to eat well with pickled eggs, sauerkraut and more. With the ability to feed her body, she was able to work harder to rebuild. Tune in to hear her story.
