S8E10: Ambiguous Grief: Grieving When You Can't Get Closure - a podcast by Terri Lomax & Dr. Dominique Broussard
from 2020-12-04T04:56:41
Pandemic, death, divorce, natural disaster, addiction...grief and loss is something we have all experienced. How we define and experience the loss varies. In today’s episode, Terri and Dr. Dom help us understand ambiguous grief. Lady, if you have experienced the physical loss of someone or something while still experiencing them psychologically or the inverse then this episode may give you the language you need to define your experience. Hopefully, this complex conversation between Dr. Dom and Terri will help cultivate the healing you need.
Quote of the Day:
"I wanted a perfect ending. Now that I've learned the hard way, some poems don't rhyme and stories don't have a clear beginning, middle, or end. Life is about not knowing, having to change, taking the moment and making the best of it without knowing what's going to happen next."
-Gilda Radner
Tips for Navigating Ambiguous Loss:
- Utilize “both, and” thinking (ie., opposite of black/white, either/or)
- Set aside time to not think about the loss
- Reassign family roles
- Family therapy/interactions
- Community/group therapy/interactions
