Eat a healthy diet and exercise

When you eat a balanced diet and exercise regularly, your liver will thank you. More so, you will prevent nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, which is often associated with cirrhosis.

Regular exercising helps to burn triglycerides for fuel and reduce liver fat.

Also, you need to avoid high-calorie foods, refined carbohydrates, saturated fat, and sugars. Eat fiber-rich foods, including vegetables, fruits, rice, whole-grain bread, and cereals.

Avoid toxins

Most insecticides, cleaning and aerosol products, additives, and chemicals contain toxins, which can cause harm to your liver cells.

So, when dealing with these materials at home, ensure that you wear a mask, and your room is well-ventilated. Besides, do not smoke.

Avoid too much alcohol

Alcoholic beverages can damage your liver cells and scar your liver. That’s why it is important to talk to your doctor to learn how much alcohol is safe for you.

You may be asked to quit completely or drink alcohol in moderation.

Avoid contaminated needles

You need to be careful with the use of needles and ensure it is not dirty. Besides, you also need to follow up with your doctor to seek testing immediately after any form of skin penetration involving needles and sharp instruments.

Sometimes you need immediate follow-up after any unsafe injection practice, even in a hospital setting.

Practice safe sex

You stand the risk of having hepatitis B and hepatitis C if you have unprotected sex or sex with more than one person.

So, the best thing to do is to practice safe sex and use protection, especially when you’re not too sure of your partner.

Follow directions on all medications

When you abuse drugs, use them incorrectly, or mix the type of medicines, you stand the risk of damaging your liver.

More so, never mix your medication with alcohol, even if you don’t take them together.

Talk to your doctor before using any natural or herbal remedy, over-the-counter medicines, and supplements.

Maintain a healthy weight

You stand the risk of having a fatty liver if you are somewhat overweight or obese.  This can lead to non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), which is now becoming the most common form of liver disease.

But when you maintain a healthy weight, it helps you reduce liver fat.

You can consult Dr. Jason Jones at our Chiropractic office at Elizabeth City NC to learn more about some tips and at-home strategies to help your liver work better for overall health and wellbeing.
