We catch up with British professional Fenella Langridge who always has a smile on her face and lives with her coach and partner Billy in her Mum's pub in the south of England. Fenella admits she can be quite shy but she's loads of fun when you get chatting to her and she has a heart of gold. She finished 7th at Challenge Daytona in 2020 and she trains in the pool in Bath alongside Olympian Vicky Holland and fellow pro India Lee. Away from triathlon, Fenella loves spending time in the kitchen, wouldn't mind going on Bake Off and is passionate about craft work.
You'll hear04:22 How she's finding being in the UK over the winter for the first time in five years.
09:15 Her talk about her 7th place finish at Challenge Daytona and her incredible finish line celebrations (see cover art!)"This is really real. I'm actually finishing a race and I've come 7th" It wasn't just about the finish, but the two years going into it."
12:05 Fenella's GREAT on finding the early part of the season in the UK a bit tough. "I think need a finish line at the end of every day at the moment, to celebrate getting through another day .you're able to eat your dinner without falling asleep into it.
13:25 Talks about the team around her. "I'm the feeder, so I take that responsibility and I'm proud of that"17:05 We talk about Fenella's love of crafts and baking
19:38 Fenella on relaxing and recovery. "It has taken a lot to just sit down and do nothing. If you need that mental release, then going out for a walk is fine, but if you need to recover for the next session, get your arse on that sofa and sit down. Accepting it and knowing it's the right thing to do and it's part of what we have chosen to do"26:17 We talk about how Fenella brings Strength and Conditioning into her training programme "It's always been a key part of our training and that's been really present with Billy and his principles. At the end of the day if you want to be fast, you have to be strong and powerful. It's even more prevelent for older athletes for general health and bone health. We do two sessions a week and then a general session too. "
41:47 We touch on finances "I think I've broken even this year. It's not a lucrative career to be in"Find out more about this week's guest - Fenella Langridge
