How to Tell If Your Team Has Enough Passion - a podcast by Jay Baer

I'm going to give you an easy way to know whether or not the people who work for or with you care enough about what you're doing.

We just bought a new car for my daughter who is officially legal to drive in Indiana, and my experience with the salesman was exceptional. Why? Because he was genuinely excited about the car that I was buying and knew more about it than anyone else.

On the other end of the spectrum, I overheard a woman on a phone call who was telling the person on the other line that the reason she left one job and went to a new one was because the one job offered more vacation days.

If all you care about is the number of vacation days you get and if your work always feels like work, you're not in the right job.

Here's my advice if you're an employer or manager:

Go talk to the people on your team and tell them, "We're going to double the amount of vacation days this year."

The people who are super excited about that are the ones that shouldn't be working at your company.

There are a lot of people out there who say you should follow your passion and find a job that you love. This isn't realistic for everyone because they have circumstances keeping them in a certain job for the money or the benefits. But that's not their fault; it's the employer's fault.

What you need to do as an employer is hire for passion and train for skills, not the other way around.
