Today I share with you the story of Harrison Mckinnon, who was a real life super hero. Just after his first birthday Harrison was diagnosed with anaplastic large cell lymphoma. A bright light and tiny warrior, he endured endless procedures, treatments and hospital stays. He reacted well to treatments and was declared cancer free, which allowed him a blissful summer, filled with toddler fun long overdue. But when the cancer returned and chemotherapy treatments failed, a stem cell transplant was the final hope.  In March 2017 Harrison had a stem cell transplant, and for 10 days prior he received high dose chemo and radiation to eradicate his immune system, so his body would be more likely to accept the transplant. Ultimately what cost him his life was an opportunistic infection so tiny, it wouldn't be lethal to most of us, but  would be just too much for Harrison to fight. On June 17, 2017 after a battle with cancer that lasted more than half his life, Harrison was taken from this world far too soon. Though he was only here for a short time, his memory consumes the hearts of those who knew him, and his legacy continues to leave a strong impact, even on those of us who didn't get the chance to meet him. This one is a heavy one, yet a powerful one and an important conversation worth having.  I'm joined by Shannon Mckinnon, who is Harrison's mom and Mum of three. Two in the sunshine and 1 in the storms. We sat down to chat all things Harrison, as well as her journey through grief and out the other side. She is the true definition of resilience. She shows us that it’s ok to not be ok, but that in the end you can and will get through it. Allowing herself to be vulnerable and sharing her story, she brings hope to other women, couples and families that may be faced with similar fates. I feel blessed to have the chance to share Harrison’s story with you, he was the true definition of super hero and will always remain a strong heart and bright storm in this world.
