This has led to gaps in knowledge and missing information concerning heart health in women, transgender, and non-binary individuals. "Karen Sammer is a breast cancer survivor and a spontaneous coronary artery dissection (SCAD) heart attack survivor.
In 2010, after dealing with breast cancer and the effects of chemo and radiation, she decided to take control of her health. In the process of making significant lifestyle changes and losing 135 pounds, she found her passion in learning about health and nutrition.
In 2017, she experienced another major health event when she had a SCAD followed by a heart attack, which made her double down on her self care. She was trained at the Mayo Clinic to be a WomenHeart Champion Community Educator and goes wherever there is an audience to talk about heart disease in women, what to look for, what to do if you have it, and how to prevent it.
Karen retired from her corporate job as Director, Tax Audits and now makes her living as a certified health and nutrition coach. She works with people who are living with or are at risk for developing chronic illness that can be managed through nutrition and lifestyle changes to prevent, reduce and sometimes even reverse such conditions.
Karen is a Certified Health and Nutrition Coach. She also holds a certification in Whole Food Plant Based Nutrition.
