Before you begin, you need to understand the difference between editorial and advertorial content. You can't approach the news editor with the idea in mind that you are going to pitch  your product or service You need to bring an informative angle that will educate their readers. 

One tip that Tracy Lamourie shared was to look for writers who are working on stories you can contribute to.  Where do you look?  HARO and Source Bottle are two sites where writers post questions and request for information.
