Regardless of how old you are, or what size you are, your ability to walk briskly, and your ability to balance – for at least 10 seconds on one leg, and your ability to rise from a seated to standing position, is a huge predictor of not only where your overall fitness levels are, but is also directly linked to mortality, in other words, how long you live. To be able to achieve and maintain balance, you need to also have the muscles and a cardiovascular system to support that goal. Reflecting upon three peer reviewed medical journal studies, in the British Medical Journal, the Mayo Clinic and the European Journal of Preventative Cardiology, host and teacher, Megan Morgan, guides people of all ages and most abilities through some basic balancing exercises in this episode to improve their range of motion and ability to balance. All but one exercise can be done with a chair as a standing support, and two take place on the floor. Before you start the episode, get walking so you're warmed up and ready to go! Please consult with your healthcare practitioner if you are recovering from surgery, have experienced a recent serious injury, or have major issues with dizziness or balance due to a diagnosed medical condition.
