This week on Real Talk with Rachael, we’re talking with author Nicole Zasowski about her book “From Lost to Found: Giving Up What You Think You Want for What Will Set You Free”. Nicole Zasowski is a licensed marriage and family therapist, writer, and speaker. As an old soul who wears her heart proudly on her sleeve, Nicole loves using her words to help others find an enduring peace and joy outside of circumstance. She lives in a small town just outside New York City with her husband, Jimmy, and her son, James.

We’re talking about:

  • Recognizing the warning signs of when you feel your sense of identity or safety has been violated is important. Watch for feelings of anxiety or withdrawing behavior.
  • Nicole believes that good therapy is the “one-two” punch of treatment and practice.
  • Self-control might get you a day or two of feeling better, but it’s only a temporary treatment.
  • You don’t have to believe the good things about yourself are true before you start telling yourself the good things. Even if you don’t feel it, you should still lift yourself up.
  • Don’t feel like it’s more important to have people clap for you rather than connect with you.
  • Empty hands are open to receive.
  • There’s no rest when your identity is in your performance.
  • Praise your children’s personhood as much as their performance.
