This episode has something for everyone at every level of sport, an absolutely fascinating chat with CEO of Ebbsfleet United FC, Damian Irvine. He started out in sport with an existential challenge as Chairman of Cronulla Sharks in Australian Rugby League, and is now CEO of Ebbsfleet United FC in the National League South, via turnaround jobs at Notts County and Wycombe Wanderers.

He’s got a great story to tell and a lot of wisdom for anyone working at any level, in almost any sport. He’s clearly a very good strategist because he understands its relationship with tactics and delivery. He also says that sincerity on the part of those in charge at a club is a big part of how Fan Engagement should be delivered. He also champions what he calls ‘above the line and below the line’ behaviour for everyone in and around a club, whether fans, staff or players.

He first took over as Chairman when his childhood club, Cronulla Sharks, was in financial trouble, rebuilding its financial and reputational position. He has since had spells at Notts County after the Munto Finance crisis, and Wycombe after a change of ownership. He recently took over at Ebbsfleet United after a difficult period for the owner.
