Kristine Green is a Supporter Liaison Officer at Grimsby Town FC, much more long the lines of their intended role as a conduit between fans and club, though specialising in dialogue between fans and police.

Alongside her very practical experience, as part of her Public Relations degree she has also studied policing and how language and statements from the police ahead of 'high risk' matches help or hinder crowd behaviour and the chances of disorder.

We talk about the insight she's gained from study, what she's learned about the role of SLO that can help clubs deliver a more effective role, closer to the one intended.

This is very much the companion podcast to Episode Three with Owen West and Cliff Stott, so make sure you listen to that one as well.

You might also like to know that Kristine achieved a First in her degree, so congratulations from Fan Insights!

Key Insights from Episode Seven

  1. Language matters: whether you're a club or the police, what you say can massively change how people react and behave. This is where your SLO can play a vital role
  2. Dialogue isn't just about structure - Fans Parliaments, forums, or structured relationships with your supporters' trust, but about how you listen and speak all the time. It's about culture
  3. The SLO role is a vital part of the toolkit clubs have. Read the guidance from SD Europe/UEFA, and work with your supporters' trust/independent group to get the role right
