Our guest in Episode Five, is Tom Gorringe, Commercial Director of Bristol Rovers. He was previously at Portsmouth (two administrations, two relegations!), Cardiff City and his hometown club, Brighton and Hove Albion. We have a yomp through his career so far, including whether there's a theme to what he does, and get some generally very good advice on how to make Fan Engagement work. If you want a proper idea of his career so far, head over to his LinkedIn page (below).

What is most standout from this interview is how he manages to balance the commercial priorities that a club demands, with the sincerity needed to practice Fan Engagement (fans can almost instinctively work out if this is missing). Like our first guest Dan McGeachie, being out on the stump, meeting fans face-to-face, must be a critical part of every Fan Engagement practitioner.

Key Insights from Episode Three

  1. Commercial needs and Fan Engagement don't have to be enemies. In fact, they should be the best of friends!
  2. If you want to learn how to practice Fan Engagement at its most rooted and simple, spend time at the sharp-end with fans. Get to know how they think, act, and what they want, and your commercial decisions will be better
