Synopsis

Julian Lewis, founding partner of Integrus Global and one of the co-authors of Infinite Giving, joins Dr. Misner on the podcast this week to talk about expanding Givers Gain beyond BNI.Any community you belong to can become a Givers Gain Community by embracing the 7 principles of Givers Gain outlined in Infinite Giving. (Listen to Episode 676 if you're not familiar with the 7 principles.)

Operating on the principles of Givers Gain can make a big difference to a community, whether it's a family, a sports team, a religious group, or a political group. BNI chapters are positive places to be. By modeling the 7 principles, we can make the world a more positive place.

People who aren't familiar with all 7 principles can wear themselves out giving too much. It's very important to understand that it's okay to gain and to learn to give from your saucer, not from your cup.

I'm Priscilla Rice, and I'm coming to you from Live Oak Recording Studio in Berkeley, California. And I'm joined on the phone today by the Founder and the Chief Visionary Officer of BNI, Dr. Ivan Misner. Hello, Ivan, how are you today?

Ivan:I am doing great. And I have a good friend who is on the podcast with me, Julian Lewis. Julian co-wrote the book Infinite Giving. And we're going to be talking about that, and Givers Gain Communities, in this podcast. And the reason we use the term Givers Gain Communities is that we wanted the book to be accessible to everyone. And we're going to be talking about material from the book, Infinite Giving.

Julian was an amazing co-author, along with Greg Davies. And actually they brought me into the book concept that they had, and I appreciate them doing that.Julian is passionate about personal and business success. He calls himself a portfolio entrepreneur with business interests as diverse as IT support and filmmaking. He's a founding partner of the business coaching company, Integrus Global, and an Executive Director of BNI in the UK. In 1997, he started his first business and he's gone on to start and grow businesses ever since. He continues to coach, mentor, and consult to businesses globally. Julian, welcome to BNI Podcast.

Julian:Thank you very much. It's great to be here.

Ivan:Well, it's good to have you here and I really did thoroughly enjoy working on the book with you guys. It was a blast. I particularly enjoyed the video we did of flipping the coin as whether it should be in Queen's English or American English.

https://youtu.be/tOblTIZ278kJulian:I've gotten into a lot of trouble in the UK for calling tails.

Ivan:Yes, I heard that. For those of you who don't know what we're talking about, go listen to or watch, go to my blog, IvanMisner.com and you'll see a video back there of the coin flip on that. So let's jump in, Julian. The first thing that you wanted to talk about was expanding Givers Gain beyond BNI, hence, the term we use: Givers Gain Communities. What do you have in mind there?

Julian: Yeah, exactly. So our goal with the book is to inspire one person at a time to live a personal life of Infinite Giving. And that's very familiar to BNI members. And we also wanted, as well as inspiring individuals, is to introduce the concept of Givers Gain to other communities. And we call these Givers Gain Communities. I'll give you some examples. So, these could be our own families. And business groups, such as BNI, are obviously included. Sports teams, religious groups, political groups, within individual businesses themselves, or even our friendship groups. There's lots of different areas where people can benefit from Givers Gain. And the effect of Givers Gain on communities when it's well understood, is going to make a big difference to those communiti...
