Discussing how our bodies evolutionary energy molecule—adenosine triphosphate (ATP)—is resynthesised via chemical action using our 2 anaerobic systems or oxidatively using our aerobic system. I discuss lactic acid and how it relates to your fast run sessions and racing as well as debunk a few myths on lactic acid. Lactic acid is a by-product of the breaking down of glucose and plays a very important role in being recycled back into an energy source as well as being utilised by the heart. Training in and around our lactic acid threshold—approximately 4 mmol/L blood—stimulates adaptation allowing you to run faster before reaching your anaerobic or lactate threshold.
