It's the start of Mens Health Week which is about raising awareness about health issues that impact the male population.
- In the UK over 3 out of 4 suicides are by men and suicide is the biggest cause of death for men under 35
- 12.5% of men in the UK are suffering from mental health disorders.
- Men are nearly three times more likely than women to become alcohol dependent and are more likely to die from illegal drug use.
Our social evolution has brought about terms like "man up" and "boys don't cry" which has made it difficult for men to open up about mental health issues.
In this episode I talk with Alex Manzi who is an author, coach, podcaster but above all a human soul, (who happens to be male!) who has experienced mental health ups and downs like the rest of us. He was kind enough to share his story of how he battled with depression in his 20's and his journey to a better state of being.
