The Power of Purpose - Finding Your Mid-Career Why - a podcast by Janice Sutherland

In this episode, I reflect on my mother's experience of losing her sense of purpose in midlife after retirement. Watching my mother go through this journey has been difficult, as she’s always been a vibrant and active person who loved her family and was passionate about her work. However, once she retired she struggled to find a new sense of meaning and purpose in life.

I watched firsthand how the loss of purpose affected her mental and physical health, and I realized that this is a common experience for many women in midlife. Through my mother's experience, I learned the importance of having a sense of purpose and its positive impact on life. I also discovered some practical strategies and exercises for rediscovering purpose in midlife, such as exploring personal values, strengths, and interests, and seeking out new opportunities for growth and connection.
